Dampak pemanasan global sudah terlihat nyata, mulai dari melelehnya es di kutub, kenaikan suhu dan permukaan air laut, suhu bumi yang semakin meningkat, perubahan iklim, kekeringan, serta banyaknya populasi spesies yang terancam punah sepertinya belum cukup untuk membuat kita sadar betapa rusaknya bumi ini. Sampai kapan kita mau menutup mata?
Segala bentuk pembangunan untuk kepentingan manusia telah mengorbankan banyak kehidupan lain di bumi. Menurut IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), terdapat lebih dari 42.100 populasi spesies terancam punah, dan jumlah tersebut hanya 28% dari semua spesies yang dinilai, baik dari hewan maupun tumbuhan.
Mengapa tidak melakukan konservasi?
Tidak semudah itu, permasalahan lingkungan bukanlah menjadi prioritas utama bagi masyarakat dan juga pemerintah. Terdapat hal lain seperti bidang ekonomi, kesehatan, dan pendidikan yang harus didahulukan oleh pemerintah dibandingkan melakukan konservasi dengan melalui berbagai pertimbangan. Apakah pemerintah saja yang bertanggung jawab atas hal ini? Tentu saja tidak, sebagai manusia yang berakal tentunya kita harus sadar bahwa melestarikan lingkungan merupakan tanggung jawab bersama.
Apa lagi lagi yang kita tunggu untuk mau berkontribusi menjaga bumi? Meskipun sudah banyak lembaga dan komunitas yang dibentuk untuk melakukan tugas tersebut, namun bagaimana dengan kita? Sudahkah setidaknya kita membuang sampah pada tempatnya? Sudahkah kita mau mengurangi penggunaan bahan kimia yang mencemari lingkungan? Sudahkah kita mengurangi emisi karbon dengan berjalan kaki atau menggunakan transportasi umum? Sudahkah kita menerapkan prinsip reduce, reuse, dan recycle dalam kehidupan sehari-hari?. Satu sampah saja yang kita buang sembarangan bisa menghambat aliran air dan menyebabkan banjir, sedikit banyak bahan kimia yang tanpa sadar kita buang ke lingkungan sudah mematikan mikroorganisme yang bermanfaat baik bagi tanah maupun di air, satu saja sampah plastik yang dibuang langsung ke lingkungan dapat menghambat kerja organisme dekomposer. Apakah mau jika generasi kita selanjutnya hidup dalam kesulitan?
Manusia memegang peranan penting dalam menjaga ekosistem di bumi. Dalam surah Al-Hijr ayat 19, Allah berfirman:
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ
Artinya: “Dan Kami telah menghamparkan bumi dan menjadikan padanya gunung-gunung dan Kami tumbuhkan padanya segala sesuatu menurut ukuran.”
Allah swt. telah menghamparkan bumi, menjadikan gunung dan tumbuh-tumbuhan, oleh karena itu manusia harus bertanggung jawab mengelola dan memanfaatkan sumber daya alam dengan tetap menjaga kelestarian alam untuk mencapai kemakmuran, sehingga dapat memenuhi kebutuhan manusia. Tidak membutuhkan energi yang besar untuk ikut menjaga bumi, mulailah dengan hal-hal kecil seperti membuang sampah pada tempatnya; mengurangi penggunaan plastik sekali pakai; melakukan reduce, reuse, dan recycle pada limbah rumah tangga; mengurangi penggunaan kendaraan bermotor dengan berjalan kaki atau menggunakan transportasi umum; beralih menggunakan sumber daya terbarukan; mengurangi penggunaan bahan kimia yang limbahnya mencemari lingkungan; dan juga mengingatkan orang lain yang masih acuh terhadap hal tersebut.
Kalau bukan di bumi, mau di mana lagi kita tinggal?
Kesadaran untuk menjaga lingkungan berawal dari diri sendiri. Langkah kecilmu membantu menyelamatkan kehidupan generasi selanjutnya. Karena itu, Yuk jaga dan lestarikan bumi kita bersama-sama.
